Diploma in Sanskrit

Level I. In the first level the student is gradually familiarized with the writing, phonetics, and basic structural elements of the language, and develops the ability to read simplified narrative writing.

Level II. In the second level the syntactic and morphological elements constituting the essential complexity of Sanskrit are presented. Special emphasis is placed on developing competence in reading.

Level III. The third level continues the study of the habitual morphological and grammatical elements present in classical Sanskrit writing, until the student has developed the ability to begin reading original textual material.

Level IV. The fourth level covers the final elements of the morphosyntactic system of Sanskrit. Students are introduced to the most complex features of the language — those pertaining to the most idiosyncratic stylistic expressions. The course syllabus is thus completed with the study of less frequently used elements of the language.
